KOCHI: India’s contribution to global scientific research was just one per cent, Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) Vice-Chancellor Gangan Prathap has said. Talking after inaugurating the World Brain Awareness Week organised by the Department of Biotechnology of Cusat here on Monday, Dr. Prathap said this situation was not acceptable at all. More research institutions and universities should be established and India’s share in research should be enhanced urgently, he said. He said 20 per cent of world’s youth would be in India by 2020. Joseph. D. Padayatty, Emeritus Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore presided over the function. N.D. Inasu, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Cusat; B. Ekbal, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala; P. Sreekumar, senior neurosurgeon; P.S. John, Syndicate member, Cusat; V. Unni Krishnan Nair, Dean, Faculty of Science, Cusat; and A. Ramachandran, Registrar, Cusat, attended the function. The annual awareness campaign being held world wide for brain care will conclude on Saturday.
