NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal were among a number of party leaders from the Capital and nearby States who were called to 10 Janpath on Monday by party president Sonia Gandhi and told that she appreciated the manner in which a major party rally was conducted at the Ramlila Grounds here on Sunday. Ms. Gandhi met the party leaders for about 15 minutes and expressed her happiness at the successful organisation of the rally that had been called to thank the party leadership for coming out with a Budget that had waived Rs.60,000 crore worth of loans for farmers in order to provide them relief in a time of distress. The Congress president also told them to mobilise the party at the district and block levels and prepare for the days to come. In respect of Delhi, she also told the local leaders to inform the people about the Income Tax benefits that had been passed on to them by way of the Budget and the manner in which purchase of two-wheelers and four-wheelers has become more affordable due to reduction in excise. There was praise for the efforts put in by the State units of the Congress in organising the rally that had provided an opportunity to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ms. Gandhi to once again explain to the people how they had tried to improve the lot of the masses, especially the poor and marginal farmers, through the Budget. Leaders presentAmong the State leaders who met Ms. Gandhi during the interaction were the Uttar Pradesh unit chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Haryana PCC president Phool Chand Maulana, Chandigarh unit chief B.B. Bahl, Madhya Pradesh unit chief Suresh Pachauri and Rajasthan PCC chief C.P. Joshi. The meeting was also attended by senior AICC leaders including treasurer Motilal Vora, political secretary Ahmed Patel, and general secretaries Ashok Gehlot, Janardan Dwivedi, Mukul Wasnik and V. Narayanswamy.
