Guwahati: A 12-member Ministry of the sixth Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front government in Tripura was sworn in at the Raj Bhavan in Agartala on Monday.

Manik Sarkar created a record in the political history of the State, having been sworn in Chief Minister for the third consecutive term, while this is the fourth consecutive term for the Left Front in Tripura.

Governor D.N. Sahaya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Sarkar and the other ministers — Anil Sarkar, Badal Choudhury, Aghore Debbarma, Tapan Chakraborty, Manik De, Jitendra Choudhury, Khagendra Jamatia, Sahid Choudhury, Bijita Nath (all CPI-M), Joygobinda Debroy of the Revolutionary Socialist Party and Manindra Reang of the CPI . Ms. Nath is the lone woman representative in the Ministry.

Later, Mr. Sarkar told reporters that the “new government will continue the efforts of the previous Left Front government to alleviate the sufferings of people living the below poverty line and improve the standard of living of all sections and make Tripura a model State in the country.”

CPI(M) general secretaty Prakash Karat, who along with Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat was present at the ceremony, said the Front’s victory in Tripura would boost the Left movement in the entire country.
