“I didn’t divorce Manyata”

Mumbai: A man who claims to be the first husband of Manyata, wife of actor Sanjay Dutt, on Monday told a court here that he had never divorced her.

In fact, on the date of divorce shown on the alleged fake documents, Ms. Manyata was six months pregnant, Mairaj-ur Rehman told magistrate Pankaj Shah through his lawyer. As such, the divorce was not legal according to the Muslim laws, his lawyer argued.

Mr. Rehman said the cleric (Maulana), who claimed to have pronounced divorce, could not be relied upon as some cases were pending against him. Also, Mr. Rehman said, he had never received any divorce notice.

Despite Ms. Manyata stating on record that she had no child by Mr. Rehman, he told the court that they had a son, Mustafa, and he had video clippings and photographs showing all three of them.

The court has asked Mr. Rehman to file an affidavit and point out what material in the police report was against Islamic laws. — PTI
