Mumbai: The Shiv Sena on Monday announced sitting MP and industrialist Rajkumar Dhoot and Maharashtra Times editor Bharatkumar Raut as its candidates for two of the seven Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra for which biennial election will be held on March 26. Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray announced the names at Shivalaya, the Shiv Sena office here. Both Mr. Dhoot and Mr. Raut were present at the time of announcement. Mr. Raut has been nominated in place of the Sena’s sitting MP Eknath Thakur. Seven vacanciesBiennial elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats are to be held on March 26. Seven members are retiring from Maharashtra. Of the seven seats falling vacant, the Shiv Sena, the Congress and NCP would be entitled to two seats each and the BJP one, going by their respective strength in the Assembly. Likely to be renominatedUnion Ministers Murli Deora and Prithviraj Chavan are likely to be renominated, the Congress sources said. The NCP is to field its treasurer Y.P. Trivedi and academician Janardhan Waghmare. The BJP is expected to field either Rekha Mahajan or Prakash Javadekar in place of sitting MP Ved Prakash Goel. For the Maharashtra Legislative Council, the Shiv Sena announced the names of Kiran Pawaskar and Neelam Gorhe. — PTI
