NEW DELHI: In yet another case of road rage and worse on the Capital’s roads, four young men in a Tata Indica car allegedly misbehaved with a young couple travelling in a Chevrolet Optra and chased them over a long distance following an accident late on Monday night. All four were subsequently arrested under dramatic circumstances. Jasjeet Singh, senior marketing manager with a multinational company, his wife Gagan and their six-year-old son were on their way back home after attending the “tonsure” ceremony of a friend’s son in Model Town when their vehicle allegedly hit a Tata Indica car near the Lodhi Road flyover around 11-15 p.m. This led to a heated exchange of words between Jasjeet Singh and the four occupants of the other vehicle. Subsequently one of the four alighted from the Indica hurling abuses at the couple and banged the vehicle’s window daring Jasjeet to come out. Afraid that the four would attack him and his family, Jasjeet sped away. Just when they thought their nightmare was over, the couple to their horror noticed that the rashly driven Indica was trailing them in hot pursuit. Jasjeet made frantic phone calls on his mobile to his relatives and the police seeking help. In the meantime, the accused caught up with them and banged their vehicle against the Chevrolet Optra trying to force Jasjeet to stop. Instead of stopping or hurrying to his Greater Kailash Part I residence, Jasjeet just then had the presence of mind to rush to the local police station. He parked the vehicle outside the police station and ran inside screaming for help. Just then the Indica with its four occupants also arrived there and, since there happened to be a power cut in the area, entered the police station premises without realising it. The four were overpowered by the police at once. A medical examination revealed that one of them was drunk. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Jasjeet, the police registered a case and arrested the four. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Arjun, Sanjeev, Raj Kumar and Tavrej. The four were on Tuesday produced in a Delhi court where they submitted that they chased the complainant because he had rammed his car into their vehicle. After listening to the arguments of both sides, the court directed the police to register a case on the basis of the complaint of the four accused and released them on personal bonds.
