Students will be given field and research-based green projects A trained Nat Geo instructor will conduct interactive sessions Bangalore: Here is an innovative way to educate schoolchildren about bio-resources and their use – and “re-think the way they see the world”. The DNA Club is a year-long school contact programme formulated by the Department of Biotechnology in association with the National Geographic channel. Students from class six to nine across India will be entertained even as they are educated through interesting projects, quizzes and discussions – “to become responsible citizens of the planet”. The club will reach out to 5,00,000 children in 400 public and private schools in 14 cities in India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Nasik, Dehradun, Calicut and Mysore. The Nat Geo channel that brings to millions of homes programmes on natural history, science, wildlife and people will lend its expertise to the club. A trained Nat Geo instructor will conduct interactive sessions for students of class six to nine, which will be followed by screening of films catering to the respective classes. Students will be given field and research-based green projects to enhance their knowledge of bio-resources and biotechnology. City-level inter-school quizzes will also be organised to recognise the “Green Junior”.
