‘Pinarayi hindering peace initiatives’

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: M.T. Ramesh, State general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has alleged that CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan is jeopardizing the peace initiatives of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in Kannur.

Inaugurating a dharna organised by the district unit of his party in front of the Head Post Office here against the killings in Kannur, Mr. Ramesh said while Mr. Achuthanandan appeared to be sincere in restoring peace in Kannur, Mr. Pinarayi was against it. The BJP wanted to restore peace in the area. But if Mr. Pinarayi desired to the contrary, the BJP-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) too were not very keen on peace.

Each time the CPI(M) breaches a peace agreement, the RSS and the BJP were made to pay for it. When our side was prepared for peace, the CPI(M) misinterpreted it as a weakness. He cautioned that if the CPI(M) raised another weapon against the BJP-RSS activists, that party would have to pay a big price .

He said the BJP-RSS reacted to the violence in Kannur when “our patience was tested.” “On our own we never wanted to engage in such kind of acts, but how much can we tolerate,” he asked. He said the conspiracy to unleash violence was a decision taken by the CPI(M) leadership at the Kottayam conference. District president of the BJP Kizhakkanela Sudhakaran presided over the dharna.
