Former deputy speaker launches fast

Staff Reporter

In support of lawyers’ stir

BERHAMPUR: The former deputy speaker of Orissa Assembly and BJP leader, Rama Chandra Panda started indefinite hunger strike in front of the office of Ganjam Bar Association from Tuesday. He was demanding immediate official communique by the State Government with the Centre regarding establishment of a permanent Bench of the High Court in the city.

Mr.Panda also happens to be a member of the Ganjam Bar Association.

The lawyers of the Ganjam Bar Association are continuing their cease work agitation since more than three months demanding permanent Bench of the High Court in the city. The district judge court for Ganjam and Gajapati districts and other courts in the city are defunct due to this continuing agitation of lawyers.

The district judge tried to run his court at a new building at Chatrapur from Tuesday as the lawyers were not allowing the courts in Berhampur to open up. But this attempt by the district judge was opposed by the Chatrapur Bar Association.

The lawyers of Chatrapur boycotted their court and did not allow the district judge to start his court at Chatrapur. A team of lawyers from Berhampur also reached Chatrapur to take part in the protest agitation by the Chatrapur lawyers.
