Role of critics highlighted
Correspondent
‘Fair criticism should lead to conversation and not to conflict’
Sirsi: A critic is not a special person. In the words of English critic F.R. Lewis “an ideal reader is an ideal critic” said Kannada critic T.P. Ashok.
He was the chief guest of the cultural festival held at Halagadde in Sirsi taluk on Sunday.
An egoistic person cannot become a good critic, he said. Instead of dealing with positive or negative aspects of a literary work a critic should concentrate on implicit meaning.
A fair criticism should lead to conversation and not to conflict, he said.
Kannada writer Shridhar Balgar spoke about short story writers of Uttara Kannada. Film critic Parameshwar Guntkal spoke about selection of stories for cinema.
Writers such as Bhagirati Hegde, Sunanda Kadame, Puttu Kulkarni, Muralidhar Kumundan and R.D. Hegde spoke.
Professor M.A. Hegde presided over the function. Arunachal Hegde welcomed.
Music and dance programmes and telefilm screening were held.
