Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Slogan-shouting Telugu Desam members were suspended for a day from the Assembly on Tuesday when they disrupted the proceedings demanding release of Lokayuktha report on irregularities of Yellampalli project.

In all 32 members, including leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu were suspended after several placard-waving TDP legislators stormed the podium and raised slogans.

After repeated appeals went in vain, Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy asked Legislative Affairs Minister K. Rosaiah to move a motion to suspend the members.

Later, some of the TDP members were bodily carried out of the House by marshals.

Earlier, G. Kishen Reddy (BJP) staged a walkout, resenting Government failure to table the annual reports of the Lokayuktha while CPI(M) and CPI floor leaders N. Narsimhaiah and Chada Venkat Reddy resumed seats after registering protest.

Under scrutiny

The issue of the Lokayuktha report on Yellampalli cropped up when Mr. Kishen Reddy, through a question, sought details about the implementation of the Lokayuktha judgments.

In his reply, Higher Education Minister D. Srinivas said Lokayuktha report on Yellampalli was under examination of Irrigation Department and it would be presented before the House.

He said Lokayuktha which was established in 1983, cleared 49,897 out of 51,099 cases of corruption that came for disposal.

Recently, the Government implemented 30 out of 35 judgments issued by the Lokayuktha covering various cases.
