TDP alleges violation of model code
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party has appealed to the State Election Commission to direct the Airports Authority of India, the State Government and other agencies not to go ahead with the inauguration of the new international airport at Shamshabad.
In a memorandum submitted to the State Election Commission on Tuesday, a delegation of MLAs led by Nagam Janardhan Reddy alleged that the inauguration on March 14 violated the model code of conduct as elections were due for Shamshabad- I Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and this process is to be completed on March 28.
In its notification on March 7, the SEC has informed all Collectors where elections are due that the model code comes into force from the date of issue of notification and was applicable to the entire mandal in which the MPTC was located, he pointed out. Dr. Reddy recalled that the inauguration was by the All India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi, though she does not hold any official position and it would be attended by the Chief Minister.
