Government to start wholesale distribution of ration goods

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to check diversion and black marketing of food grains, the government is planning to take over the wholesale distribution of ration goods, Food and Civil Supplies Minister C.Divakaran has said.

Replying to questions in the Assembly on Tuesday, Mr. Divakaran said that initially the Civil Supplies Corporation would set up wholesale depots in Ernakulam.

The government would frame a rationing act if needed. Taluk food advisory committees would be formed soon. Law Minister M.Vijayakumar said automation of the department would be completed by March 26. The online monitoring system had not detected any discrepancy in the conduct of government cases. Transport Minister Mathew T.Thomas said that the KSRTC was collecting a cess of Rs.30 lakh per month from passengers.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said in a written reply that 20 IAS, nine IPS, and four IFS officers had gone on deputation to various services since the government came to power.

An elevated light metro rail between Aluva and Thripunithura spanning 25.253 km was under the consideration of the government.

The State government had sought a report of the Central Telecom Commission about the functioning of private cellular telephone companies, he said.
