SHIMLA: Two months after taking leave from Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College where he was Principal for many years, Dr. Anil Wilson on Tuesday resigned from the post of Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor but denied that the change of government in the hill State had anything to do with his decision. Dr. Wilson said he had served a “one-month notice as mandated by HPU rules” and that he wants to return to Delhi to be with his ailing wife. “My personal circumstances have made it imperative for me to relinquish my position as Vice-Chancellor of HPU. Accordingly I have submitted my resignation to the university Chancellor and State Governor V. S. Kokje,” he said in a statement. His wife Rita Wilson, working with a private university in Gurgaon, “is ill and it is not possible for her to come to Shimla. So I decided to go back to Delhi to be with her,” he told PTI. He said there was no political pressure behind his decision since the Congress was voted out of power in the December elections in Himachal Pradesh. “When I met Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today and told him about my decision, he asked me not to resign and go on leave instead. But I explained to him my family problems,” he said.
