A day of walk-outs

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Opposition Congress legislators in Madhya Pradesh Assembly were in an unrelenting mood on Tuesday, staging walkouts on three occasions, the third time after prolonged slogan-shouting and protests in the well of the House on the electricity issue.

The Congress MLAs walked out twice during Question Hour, the first time when they were not satisfied with PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya’s reply to a query about the re-appointment of a retired chief engineer and his field posting.

They walked out again when Industry Minister Jayant Malaiya told the House during Question Hour that it would not be possible for his department to issue a circular to other government departments informing them about a construction firm that had been blacklisted.

Later when the Minister for Energy, School Education, Medical Education and Bio-diversity Gauri Shankar Shejwar was presenting the budgetary demands of his departments for vote, the Congress members along with Ramlakhan Sharma of CPI lodged a strong protest. They rushed to the well of the House shouting slogans demanding adequate supply of electricity. When the Speaker, Ishwardas Rohani, said that their protest would not go on record and asked Dr. Shejwar to continue presenting the demands, the MLAs returned to their seats but later staged a walkout.
