Bangalore: The Janata Dal (United) has suggested that the President of the Janata Dal (Secular) and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda should convene a meeting for facilitating a reunion of Janata Dal factions to fight the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the coming Assembly elections. M.P. Nadagouda, the party MLC, told presspersons here on Tuesday that it was time Mr. Deve Gowda realised the political strength of the Janata Dal factions to fight the elections under one umbrella. Mr. Deve Gowda should hold talks with JD(U) leaders like Sharad Yadav, for exploring the possibilities of a reunion, he said. Considering Mr. Deve Gowda’s political acumen and experience, nothing was impossible, he said. But his passion for the political future of his sons had blurred his political vision. He should ask himself why many of the frontline leaders, who were once identified with former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde and who later joined him, deserted Mr. Deve Gowda at the crucial juncture. The on-going exodus from the JD(S) was an indication of its fast eroding public support in urban and rural areas. Although divided, the Janata Dal factions had their own support bases at all levels. Reunion of the JD factions, with quality leadership, could help them emerge as a challenging third force in the elections, Dr. Nadagouda said. Dr. Nadagouda also said that his party would field its candidates in 50 constituencies across the State.
