‘Promethean’ showcases creativity of students

‘Promethean 2K8’, organised by students of B.V. Raju Institute of Technology, will conclude today


Sangareddy: The national-level ‘Promethean 2K8’, organised by students of B.V. Raju Institute of Technology in Narsapur has succeeded in bringing out hidden talents among engineering students of the country.

Promethean, which means - outrageously creative, began on the campus on Monday and will come to an end on Wednesday.

Out of the 600 students who tried for an entry into the three-day multi-discipline contest, only 120 were given a chance to participate.

The students were tested in subjects like robotics, fiction writing, paper presentation, mock interviews and online C- programming. Students from Pondicherry, Sholapur, Manipal, Chennai and Benguluru colleges are also competing in the event.

Speaking to The Hindu, BVRIT Dean K.S. Reddy said that only 50 hostel student were given the chance to organise the national level event. He said that the students who stay off campus spend a lot of valuable time in travel, where as the hostel boarders benefit from extended hours of study.

He said that the same resident student group recently won second prize in an online hacking contest held in Goa by BITS Pilani Goa campus, where the hosts won the first prize. Third year computer engineering student and convener of the event B. Karthik said the response to the event was fantastic and students had a chance to participate and crack puzzles online.

R. Swetha, the student editor, said fiction writing contest has been great as the students don the mantle of Steven Spielberg and write on subjects like time travel.
