Bird flu: ‘no cause for alarm’
Special Correspondent
Kolkata: The avian flu attacks in two blocks of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district have been reported from areas adjacent to some of those that have been hit by the outbreak in January-February, Minister for Animal Resources Development Anisur Rahaman has said, adding there is no cause for alarm.
The district was one of the worst hit in the earlier avian flu outbreak.
Culling operations in the areas surrounding the places where chickens died from the disease in the recent attack were under way and steps had been taken to check its spread, he told the West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday.
Nearly 50,000 poultry birds are to be culled in the two affected blocks of the district.
