Support the hockey team: Tendulkar

Mumbai: Following India’s defeat at the hands of Great Britain in the Olympic qualifier at Santiago, Sachin Tendulkar, talking to The Hindu, said: “As a hockey-loving nation it’s very disappointing that the Indian hockey team has not qualified for the Beijing Olympics, but one must also recognise the fact that the players must be feeling the disappointment much more than anyone else.

“This is the time all Indians must encourage and support the players. Once you fall, it’s important to get up. There will be stumbling blocks in sports. The players will get up and we must give them our helping hand.

“As a nation we need to be with the players, support them when they need the support. We should not run them down. No sportsman wants to fail. They have tried. Ups and downs are always going to happen in sports.” — Special Correspondent
