VIJAYAWADA: Project Director of Women and Child Welfare Department, Krishna district, M. J. Nirmala on Tuesday said proper health and nutrition were essential to raise the level of social awareness among adolescent girls. Addressing a seminar on the importance of vocational training for adolescent girls, organised by the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Ms. Nirmala pointed out that a sum of Rs. 1.30 lakh was approved for each project envisaging improvement in the social status of adolescent girls. She said these welfare schemes were aimed at distancing girls from economically backward classes from social evils and help them become self-reliant. In addition to improving their financial status, these programmes would help them gain mental stability thus paving the way for their all-round development. She said if the girls were educated and aware of their surroundings, they could contribute their mite in eradication of social evils like child marriage and child labour. JSS Director N. Vidyakanna presided over the meeting and advised the girls to blend their vocational skills with the needs of their surroundings, as it would help them a great deal in emerging stronger on the economic front. Pamarru CPDPO Rajeswari Devi and others were present.
