iBUS: ‘Tomorrow’s City Shuttle’ BANGALORE: Not to lag behind in offering sophisticated buses in the competitive automobile market, Ashok Leyland has come out with iBUS, labelling it “Tomorrow’s City Shuttle”. Leyland officials said that the company was in the process of getting orders from bus operators for the coaches which were likely to be launched in the next few months. Ashok Leyland, which displayed its iBUS at the recent auto expo in New Delhi, showcased the model at the Ninth Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP – International Association of Public Transport) Asia Pacific Assembly here on Tuesday. From selling truck chassis to building buses, Indian manufacturers have geared up to face the competition from foreign automobile majors and iBUS is one among the latest vehicles developed in the country. For the first time in the country, iBUS offered two classes of travel – executive (12 seats) and economy (30 seats) – in the same coach. The executive class offered individual AC controls and personal LCD screens. Wireless internet on the move, central processor-enabled driver’s workplace, laptop charging stations, global positioning system for online bus tracking, passenger-information system with route map, low-floor, and 1.5-metre wide door were some of the features of iBUS, the officials said.
