No need for CBI probe, says Kamat
Special Correspondent
PANAJI: Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday said there was no need for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the mysterious death of British teenager Scarlette Keeling as the State police was on the right track.
The teenager’s mother had demanded a CBI inquiry into the death.
Mr. Kamat, who was in New Delhi on Tuesday, told The Hindu over phone that he had full confidence in the efficiency of the State police investigating the case and they would resolve the mystery in a few days.
He said that following reservations expressed by the girl’s mother earlier over the role of certain police officials, he had transferred them and senior officials had now taken charge of the case.
Mr. Kamat deplored the tendency of vested interests to blow such one-off incidents out of proportion to tarnish Goa’s image as a safe tourist destination.
