Rickshaw-puller killed in suspected ULFA attack in market
Sushanta Talukdar
Guwahati: A rickshaw-puller was killed and seven others were injured in a bomb blast, suspected to have been triggered by the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) at a market in Doomdooma in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday afternoon.
Police suspect that the bomb was concealed under two vegetable sacks brought in the rickshaw and the rickshaw-puller was tasked by the ULFA to plant the bomb inside the market for a larger impact.
However, the bomb went off at the entrance to the market due to which there were not many casualties. Of the seven injured, five have been admitted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital and two have been shifted to the Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital.
Another blast occurred at an Oil India Limited installation at Madhupur under Barbarua police station in Dibrugarh district. Principal Secretary, Home, Subhash Das told The Hindu that it was an accidental blast and no sabotage was suspected.
