Downtrend reversed in Sensex

MUMBAI: The markets on Tuesday reversed the downward trend of the past four days with the benchmark Sensex, riding on the significant gains of heavyweight DLF and L&T, ending the day up by nearly 200 points after shrugging of the initial losses.

The 30-share Sensex on the Bombay Stock Exchange closed the day at 16,123.15, a gain of 199.43 points, or 1.25 per cent, over its previous close.

The National Stock Exchange index Nifty also shot up by 65.50 points, or 1.36 per cent, to 4,865.90.

On BSE, realty, power and capital goods counters helped the Sensex to rise over 199 points. Realty major DLF took the lead and notched handsome gains of 10.11 per cent, followed by capital goods giant L&T which rose by 6.90 per cent.

L&T, which had lost nearly 8 per cent recovered the ground on Tuesday.

The recovery in Sensex was also aided by gains in power and refinery stocks. — PTI
