Tributes paid to Army martyrs

TIRUCHI: Tributes were paid to Captain T. Sahay Selvaraj and Lieutenant N. Parthiban, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation, at the Hero’s Day Celebrations organised at Bishop Heber College here recently. Capt. Sahay Selvaraj and Lt. Parthiban, who were awarded the Sena Medal and Kirti Chakra respectively posthumously for their supreme sacrifice, were former NCC cadets of the Bishop Heber College.

As part of the day-long celebrations, organised jointly by the 2/3 Company NCC Army Wing of the College and the Bishop Heber College Alumni Army NCC Association (BAANA), various competitions such as drill, flag area, cross country, best cadet, cultural and National Integration Awareness quiz were conducted for the senior division and senior wing NCC cadets of eight colleges. The Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Tiruchi emerged as the overall champion in the competitions.

Distributing the prizes, Colonel Benz K. Jacob, Group Commander, NCC Group, Tiruchi enlightened the cadets about the uniqueness of Army career citing his own varied experiences. The College Principal M. Marcus Diepen Boominathan exhorted the cadets to learn more from the NCC to become successful in their life. Victor Lazarus, vice president, BAANA welcomed the gathering.
