Traders to get 45-day notice before sealing

Staff Reporter

Stipulation for shops not protected under Master Plan-2021

NEW DELHI: In view of the latest Supreme Court orders, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to initiate sealing action within 45 days against shops and establishments not protected under the Master Plan-2021 and various Union Government ordinances.

“In the light of the court orders, the MCD will soon bring out a public notice informing traders about the categories of shops and establishments not protected under the Master Plan-2021 and various Union Government ordinances and thus liable to be sealed. The owners of these shops will be given 45 days to close their establishments failing which sealing action will be initiated against them,” said MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta on Tuesday.

The Union Government, the Delhi Government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Development Authority would together file an affidavit in the court in this regard, said Mr. Gupta, seeking an amnesty scheme for the traders.

“The Union Urban Development Ministry should constitute a high-power committee and promulgate an ordinance bringing in an amnesty scheme to stop sealing. Various provisions in the Master Plan-2021 also need to be amended to bring relief to the people of Delhi from sealing and demolition,” said Mr. Gupta.

He also appealed to the people carrying out their trade on notified roads to deposit conversion and parking charges at the earliest. “As per Master Plan-2021 all those traders who got their registration done but have not deposited conversion charges should make the payment at eight per cent interest rate. The outstanding dues should be deposited before March 31 to avail themselves of the benefit of regularisation,” said Mr. Gupta.

He said public relations officers would be deployed in all 12 MCD zones to provide necessary guidance to the traders to deposit conversion and parking charges and address their queries. “Those who have not got themselves registered and thus not paid conversion charges will have to pay 10 times penalty,” he added.
