Hurt DU student under observation
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: A Delhi University student, Deenbandhu Diwakar, who along with four others was injured in a mob attack at Palwal in Haryana on Monday, continues to be under observation at the Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences in the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here.
Injured in the right eye, he was operated upon on Monday night. “The boy was operated upon for primary closure of wounds he had received on his right eye. He will be under close observation for a few more days before we can ascertain the extent of damage to his eye.
‘No significant damage’
“A preliminary ultrasound has also been taken of the injured eye and there does not seem to be any significant damage to the back of the eye,” said a senior doctor at the centre.
Victim of mob violence
Diwakar was one of the five injured in the attack when Delhi University students with reserved seats aboard the Bhopal Express objected to some local passengers barging into the compartment and passing lewd comments at girl students. Enraged over this, the locals beat up the students.
