BANGALORE: The decision on whether to allow commercial operations at the new international airport at Devanahalli on March 30 or not will be announced by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry on Wednesday even as the Bangalore International Airport Ltd has reiterated that the airport will commence operations from March 30. Sources in the Government said that the ministry will be announcing the decision on Wednesday as it has taken stock of the situation. “The decision would be made public tomorrow by the Ministry,” sources said. BIAL Chief Executive Officer Albert Brunner said: “We have not received any information validating newspaper reports.” A BIAL release said: “BIAL demonstrated airport readiness with the successful flight trails conducted on March 7. During the trials, the BIAL has committed to delivering the new international airport to Bangalore on March 30 while the inauguration is scheduled for March 28.” DelayStaff Reporter writes from New Delhi: Operations at the greenfield airport in Bangalore could be delayed by over a month, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said. “While there is no delay at the new Hyderabad airport, issues are being discussed regarding the Bangalore airport. There could be some delay, a delay of not more than four weeks,” Civil Aviation Ministry Joint Secretary K. N. Srivastava said.
