Watchman murdered, cash looted

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Robbers made away with Rs. 8,000 cash from a post office in Bommasandra industrial area on Hosur Road on Monday night after murdering the security guard.

The assailants had smashed the guard’s head with a boulder while he was sleeping on the post office premises in Hebbugodi police station limits on the outskirts of the city, Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural district, Vikash Kumar Vikash said.

Dasappa (50), a native of Kadur taluk in Chikmagalur district, was an employee of a private security agency. He was working at the post office for the past one year, the police said. Mr. Vikash told The Hindu on Tuesday that the robbers had taken away Rs. 8,000 from the post office housed in the BSNL building. After bludgeoning Dasappa, the thieves had entered the post office by breaking the rear door. The incident came to light around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
