HYDERABAD: A proposal is under consideration to introduce a toll policy after upgrading eight four-lane roads on State highways through the public-private partnership and build operate transfer scheme. Roads and Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy told D. Narendra Kumar (TDP) and others in the Assembly on Wednesday that vehicles serving the agriculture, medical, educational sectors, two and three-wheelers as also local non-commercial vehicles would be exempted from the toll. The proposed tariff would be 50 paise a km for car/jeep/van, Rs.1 for LCV/Mini bus, Rs.2 for bus/truck and Rs.5 for multi-axle and heavy construction vehicles. Mr. Reddy said the toll gates on 23 roads and bridges, which were under State government purview, have been closed, as assured earlier. Mr. Narendra Kumar urged the government to reconsider the proposed policy, saying it would burden the common man.
