Ministry to send letter to BIAL today

Bangalore Bureau

BANGALORE: The Union Civil Aviation Ministry will write to Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) on Thursday formally asking it to defer commencement of airport operations till the last week of April instead of the earlier schedule of March 30 this year.

Sources in the Civil Aviation Ministry told The Hindu that the letter has been sent to Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel. He is expected to sign it on Thursday. Though it was to have been despatched to BIAL on Wednesday, it was delayed as Ministry officials were busy with a series of meetings related to the Airports Authority of India Ltd. staff strike.

With reference to the reports on the postponement of the opening of the international airport at Devanahalli, BIAL said it would comment only after receiving information from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
