THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Decks have been cleared for holding an all-party meeting to end the killings at Thalassery and restore normality in Kannur district with BJP-RSS leaders informing the State government that they are ready to take part in such an initiative. The breakthrough came during talks involving Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, BJP State president P.K. Krishnadas, and RSS State vice-president K.K. Balaram at the Chief Minister’s official residence here on Wednesday. The Cabinet later decided to hold the all-party meet on Saturday. The BJP-RSS leaders told the Chief Minister and the Home Minister that they were prepared to attend an all-party meeting and join the peace initiative in Kannur. They complained that the RSS was not being permitted to hold ‘shakhas’ in the district by the CPI (M) and the local police. They also demanded compensation for the next of kin of those killed and those who had sustained loss of property in the current spate of violence in Kannur and the losses sustained by an RSS worker in Chengannur following an attack on his house. They also sought steps to book those who had attacked an RSS worker who had got elected as chairman of the Guruvayur Sree Krishna College. The Chief Minister promised to look into their grievances.
