CHENNAI: Kannum Kannum Nokia… lyrics that immortalised Nokia in the Tamil speaking State would have been very apt to mark the second anniversary celebrations of Nokia India’s manufacturing plant at Sriperumbudur on Tuesday. The 8,000-strong audience at the Nehru Indoor stadium here, staff and management of the factory, simultaneously turned on torch lights as Nokia India’s Operations Director Sachin Saxena, congratulated his team for its performance over the past two years. “The colours that you see on stage — pink, orange, green, blue and yellow — symbolise Nokia. Pink is for the passion with which we work, orange stands for unity, green for excellence in production and performance, blue symbolises harmony and yellow is the balance between work and life,” he explained. The celebrations for Nokia’s 10th mobile device manufacturing facility in the world began by 11 a.m. with fun, frolic and games, with a sumptuous lunch midway. In the afternoon, after Mr. Saxena handed over the proceedings to television personalities Archana and Kannan, there were dance and light music performances and fashion shows by staff and management personnel. The catchy ‘dappaan kuthu’ film numbers prompted the audience to join the fun. Singers Srilekha Parthasarathy, Naresh Iyer and Sriram enthralled the employees. The plant, set up at a cost of U.S. $210 million and spread over an area of 210.87 acres, started with 550 employees in January 2006.
