PUDUCHERRY: In an effort to enhance the skills of NCC cadets, a lecture on personality development skills was held on Wednesday. Over 150 cadets belonging to the army, navy and air force wings of the Tagore Arts College took part in the interactive session, which threw light on communication skills and ways to face interviews.

“The aim of the lecture was to make a seamless transition from college life to corporate world. Basically, we wanted to enlighten the students on human resources and a variety of skills essential in the corporate world,” Commanding Officer Lt. Col. A.S. Narayan said.

Apart from the opportunities in the armed services, the session highlighted avenues in the IT sector and BPOs, he added.

“The programme was part of Vidhya Dhan, in which we seek to impart knowledge and skills to a select group. NCC is already a vehicle for team building and leadership,” director of Sanjivini Human Resources Institute Commodore (Retd) S. Shekhar said.

Mr. Shekhar said the session had modules dedicated to the transition from the campus to the corporate world. “We gave them tips on preparing curriculum vitae, participating in group discussions and facing interviews,” he said.

Career counselling was also part of the session. “We want to choose two boy cadets and two girl cadets from Puducherry for the Mr and Miss NCC personality contest 2008 to be held in Chennai during the end of April,” he said.
