Bapi facing altogether 16 criminal cases in his 20 years of life BHUBANESWAR: Suresh Mangaraj alias Bapi, after dodging and attacking policemen on several occasions, was finally nabbed on Wednesday. Bapi, who hails from Barmunda area of the city, had injured at least three police personnel before managing to give them a slip during past six months. The youth had almost put the city police on a spot of embarrassment. Getting a tip-off that Bapi was putting up in Jasmine Hotel in Cuttack, the Bhubaneswar police sought help of its counterpart in Cuttack and raided the hotel late night of Tuesday. But what happened next was again an episode straight out of any Bollywood film. Bapi along with his two acquaintances opened fire at police team who besieged the hotel room from all the sides. The police also retaliated with two-rounds of firing. Though two other persons were apprehended from the spot easily, Bapi again showed his true colour. He incessantly threw glass panes of the hotel room on police team and jumped out of the scene. About 20 onlookers too stood helplessly watching the proceedings. The police finally caught hold of Bapi when he was on his way to get treated at Balakati hospital on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar. Speaking to reporters here, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Sarat Sahoo said Bapi, who was facing altogether 16 criminal cases in his 20 years of life, had escaped from Berhampur Juvenile prison when he was a child.
