JAIPUR: Rajasthan Minister of State for Forests and Environment Pratap Singh Singhvi has assured the State Assembly that those involved in illegal mining in the forest areas would be identified and punished without delay. He asked the MLAs cutting across party lines to inform the authorities about illegal mining activities in their constituencies. Replying to supplementary questions during Question Hour, Mr. Singhvi said action would be taken even in cases where the lease holders for crushing of rocks get stones from the nearby areas. “However, there is no restriction on taking away dry wood and pebbles for domestic use,” he said. The Minister assured the House that action against the owners of illegal crushers in Dausa district would be taken within a fortnight. He said a total of 117 cases of illegal mining had been registered and a fine of Rs.2.52 lakh imposed on the offenders in the district during the past four years. Later, Mr. Singhvi said during Zero Hour that the State Government would shortly appoint a three-member committee to suggest measures for improvement in the management of zoos. The committee will submit its report within a month.
