Folk artists’ welfare board mooted

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: Formation of a welfare board for folk artists will help enumerate the number of folk arts that exist in Tamil Nadu, V. Irai Anbu, Secretary, Tourism and Culture, has said.

Addressing a meeting organised by the District Art and Culture Department here on Tuesday to mark the launching of membership enrolment drive, Mr. Irai Anbu said that as on date, no data was available on how many folk arts existed in the State and the number of persons practising them.

The formation of a board would help to save folk arts that were on the verge of extinction for want of artists to practise and preserve them.
