Man held for double murder
Staff Reporter
ALANGAYAM: Police arrested a former lorry driver Sadhasivam of Matrapalli for murdering his wife Thavamani and mother-in-law Salamma (60) at Kothakottai in the Alangayam panchayat union near Vaniyambadi on Wednesday.
According to the police, Sadhasivam and Thavamani had two sons - Pooarasan (12) and Tamilarasan (16). Sadhasivam was initially a lorry driver and later had an autorickshaw in Vaniyambadi. He had sold his autorickshaw owing to liquor addiction. Thavamani had been staying with her mother in Kothakottai for the past three years.
Sadhasivam came to his mother-in-law’s house at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. When Thavamani refused to speak to him, he left in a huff. An inebriated Sadhasivam returned to the house at 1 a.m. with a sharp iron rod. In a fit of rage, Sadhasivam attacked Salamma killing her on the spot. He also stabbed Thavamani to death. Pooarasan, who was witness to the murder, rushed to his uncle’s house and raised alarm.
The villagers caught hold of Sadhasivam and handed him over to the Vaniyambadi taluk police.
