PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry government has requested the ministerial staff, who have gone on a mass casual leave, to return to duty. It has also warned of legal action against those who prevent public servants from performing their duties. In a release here, the government said the staff, mostly Lower Division Clerks, Upper Division Clerks and assistants, had applied for mass casual leave, which had not been granted. The cadre was restructured last year to give the workers accelerated promotion by increasing the number of promotional posts and relaxing the qualifying service. It pointed to the measures taken for the welfare of the staff and said there was no justification for the employees to absent themselves from work.
