BJP to launch signature campaign against Valsaraj

Special Correspondent

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday announced its decision to launch a signature campaign in all Assembly segments in the Union Territory on March 17 and 18, demanding the resignation of Health Minister E.Valsaraj.

Puducherry BJP unit president M.Visweswaran told reporters here that during the campaign to be undertaken by the party functionaries, handbills would be distributed highlighting the issues related to the purchase of land for a B.Ed. college in the cooperative sector in Mahe.

Close on the heels of the signature campaign, the party would submit a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor on March 21 seeking his intervention to ensure that the Minister kept himself away from the Assembly sessions.

If Mr.Valsaraj did not come forward to resign, he should be removed from the Cabinet, Mr. Visweswaran said, adding that the BJP would also submit a memorandum to Speaker R. Radhakrishnan on the issue.

The land should have been purchased by the society with the consent of the government officials concerned, Mr.Visweswaran said, adding that the price of the site was higher than the market value.
