Permission to provide sewerage sought

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government on Wednesday filed an application in the Delhi High Court seeking permission to provide sewerage facilities in all identified unauthorised colonies located on private and public land for regularisation.

The application said the Government had been making efforts to provide the basic facilities in these colonies where more than 30 lakh people belonging to weaker sections of society live under highly unhygienic conditions due to inadequate civic amenities. Untreated sewage from these colonies was released into the Yamuna aggravating the pollution in the river. It said that the Union Cabinet had decided to regularise these colonies and the Delhi Cabinet had also decided to provide sewage systems there with adequate water supply.
