Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said that 2,000 protected teachers will be deployed to the local bodies as part of the government’s efforts to address the lack of staff in these institutions. Replying to the three-day general debate on the Budget for 2008-09, he said on Wednesday that the teachers’ services would be utilised wherever necessary even as clerical staff. But they could go back to their original service as and when vacancies arise. The Cabinet Sub-committee was examining the issue of surplus staff in various departments for deployment to the local bodies, the Minister said.
