Hubli Division of SWR records spurt in passenger traffic

HUBLI: The Hubli Division of South Western Railway has registered an increase of 23.13 per cent in the originating earnings till the end of February compared to the earnings in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Addressing the 12th Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting here on Tuesday, Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli, Rakesh Vatash said while the originating freight loading in the division had registered a marginal increase of 3.1 per cent, the passenger traffic had gone up by 18.88 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.

Listing the passenger amenities provided by the division, Mr. Vatash said a new coach guidance system had been commissioned at Londa station while at Dharwad station the train display system was extended and waiting hall was renovated.

Mr. Vatash said Rs. 7.5 crore had been allocated in the railway budget for upgrading the Hubli Railway Station. \ He said Rs. 4.03 crore had been allocated for road over bridge (ROB) in Koppal- Ginigera section and Rs. 4.70 crore for the construction of subway at Hubli railway station had been sanctioned in the budget.

Users’ plea

Participating in the discussion, DRUCC member from Bagalkot Damodar Rathi requested the railway authorities to provide a one-minute stop at Lachyan and Tadavi stations for Bagalkot-Yashwanthpur Train and stops at Tadavi, Lachyan, Vandal, Sitimani and Mugalolli stations for Solapur- Bijapur Intercity Express Train.

Mr. Babulal Jain urged the authorities to run a morning train between Guntakal and Hubli.
