Concerned minister: Education Minister M.A. Baby tries to console a student who found the first day’s question paper tough at Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram, on Wednesday. —

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Education M.A. Baby said that the Education Department would review the question paper of Sanskrit, an optional paper at the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination which began in the State on Wednesday, to ascertain whether there were printing errors as alleged by a section of the students. He was speaking to mediapersons after interacting with the students at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom. “We will look into the allegation and take appropriate steps if necessary,” he said. As many as 4, 51,470 candidates across the State took part in the examination.

Meanwhile, the change in timing of the higher secondary examination which also began on Wednesday led to some confusion among students due to the erroneous time printed on the hall tickets. Unlike previous years the higher secondary examination was held at 10 a.m.

However Mr. Baby assured that the government would make special arrangement for the students who failed to turn up for the examination in time to repeat the ‘Part-I English’ paper along with students appearing under the ‘Save a Year’ category. “The arrangement will help the students from losing a year.”

He said the new SSLC examination timing, from 1.45 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., had benefited students as they could gain some “additional time for preparation.” However, he remained non-committal on whether the new timetable for SSLC would be followed in the future. “We will decide on that only after we receive feedback from the students after this year’s examination,” the Minister said.
