Fishermen return home

Staff Reporter

RAMANATHAPURAM: Three fishermen of Rameswaram, who were repatriated by the Sri Lankan Government, returned here on Wednesday.

The boat in which the fishermen went for fishing on February 12 drifted into the sea off Talaimannar due to engine failure.

Sri Lankan Navy personnel, who rescued them, admitted Sunil Selvam (19), Leon Martin (24) to hospitals at Mannar and Anuradhapura. Another fisherman, Nagaraj (19), was kept in custody.

Following the efforts of two Governments and the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen, they were sent to Chennai by air.

They met Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar and Superintendent of Police R. Thirugnanam.
