Corrections and clarifications

  • A sentence in “Four in a row in Tripura” (Editorial, March 8, 2008) was “This left the opposition alliance of the Congress and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) with a paltry 11 seats.” We repeat the correction that we had issued on February 23, 2008. The INPT (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra) came into being on February 3, 2002, as a result of a change in nomenclature of the TUJS (Tripura Upajati Juba Samity) at the State Conference of the party, held at the Campus Hall, Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School, Agartala on February 2–3, 2002.

  • In a report “Injured Lara to miss series” (“Sport”, March 11, 2008), the fourth paragraph said that “… Lara was hit on his left forearm when playing for Trinidad and Tobago six weeks ago. He sustained a substantial distal alna fracture which in some cases requires surgery ….” It should have been ulna (elbow bone), which is the smaller of the two bones in the forearm.

  • In a tennis report “Indians start well in doubles” (“Sport”, March 11, 2008), the second paragraph said “The Bhambri sisters, Ankita and Sanaa, the Uberoi siblings, Shikha and Neha, qualifier Rushmi Chakravarthi with her Chinese partner Yan-Chong Chen and the second-seeded Sunitha Rao and her French partner Aurelie Vedy made the quarterfinals to provide a healthy image of Indian women’s tennis”, while the results column gave it as “Doubles: Pre-quarterfinals: … Neha Uberoi (U.S.) & Shikha Uberoi bt Kelly Anderson & Chanelle Scheepers (RSA) 3-6, 6-3, 10-8”. Sisters Neha and Shikha are professional tennis players who represent two different countries — the U.S. and India. (The report was on the $50,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex, Delhi.)
