Hangs in balance: The State Transport Corporation bus, which hit the walls of a bridge on Kangeyam Road in Tirupur on Wednesday.
TIRUPUR: A mineral water unit owner Nanjappan (55) of Tirupur and his friend were killed when their car hit a lorry at Periyar Colony here on Wednesday.
Police said accident occurred when the car in which they were travelling towards Tirupur from Avanashi tried to overtake a vehicle. The driver of the car lost control of it while overtaking. Anupparpalayam Police arrested the driver of the lorry.
In another accident, 11 passengers including the conductor of a State Transport Corporation bus were injured when the bus hit the parapet walls of Valam bridge on Kangeyam Road here.
The accident occurred on the wee hours of Wednesday. The bus bound for Tirupur from Ponnamaravathi hit the wall of the bridge. A parallel bridge that carries water pipes and cables prevented the bus from falling into the stream. Conductor Arumugam (37) and two passengers, who sustained serious injuries, rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital after first aid at Tirupur Government Hospital.
