HYDERABAD: The City Police on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi woman, Masama Shabnam, 21, on charge of living illegally in the city for the past three years. A hunt was launched for three Hyderabadis -- Suresh, Malik and Samir -- who allegedly provided shelter to her even after learning that she was an illegal immigrant. Shabnam hails from Lahoria village of Jessore district in Bangladesh. The Commissioner’s Task Force (West) Inspector B. Limba Reddy told reporters that the woman, along with her neighbours -- Kabitha and Liku – had illegally crossed the border four years ago. “Shabnam maintains that they had entered India to secure jobs but lost contact with the other two after reaching Mumbai,” the Inspector said. Bar dancerShabnam worked as bar dancer in Mumbai for a year. During her stay there, she developed friendship with one Samir of Tolichowki in Hyderabad. With Samir’s help she reached Hyderabad three years ago. Samir later introduced his acquaintances -- Malik and Suresh -- to her. “We’re not yet sure what relationship she has with the trio but the latter has been helping her live in the city,” the police said. Police act on a tip-offOn a tip-off, the police arrested her at Bahadurpura while she was searching for a rented house. She was handed over to the Bahadurpura police for interrogation.
