Printers upset over power holiday
SIVAKASI: The Sivakasi Master Printers’ Association has opposed the weekly power holiday on Thursdays as it would affect the printing of school textbooks and notebooks.
“Over 200 units have bagged orders for printing amid stiff competition. This being the peak season for those taking up these assignments, running the units on generators will not be economically viable,” association president V. S. Ravindran said.
Stating that the units could not seek any relaxation in meeting their deadline because of the power cuts, he said, “Any delay in the supply of textbooks will result in a heavy penalty, up to 0.5 per cent of the order value,” he said.
The units are printing textbooks for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Any failure to meet the terms of agreement with the government would also lead to blacklisting of units.
