A tribute to two painters

Workshop promotes the art they loved


It was in honour of well-known painters late K.B. Kulkarni and John Fernandes from Belgaum

Works from personal collections of the two painters on show for benefit of participants




For young artists: Painter Sanjay Shelar of Kolhapur at a painting workshop in Belgaum on Tuesday.

Belgaum: Young and amateur painters from the city and Kolhapur in Maharashtra sat in rapt attention observing the art of painting at a demonstration-cum-workshop and exhibition organised here by J.N. Bhandari School of Arts at Shinoli village on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border.

The workshop was held at Wagmaya Charcha Mandal Hall on Kirloskar Road to pay tributes to well-known painters late K.B. Kulkarni and John Fernandes from Belgaum.

According to Subash Desai, lecturer, J.N. Bhandari School, the workshop, which concluded on Tuesday, was organised not only to pay tributes to the two painters, but also to promote painting and create interest among young and amateur painters in the art.

He said that some of the personal collections of the two painters were displayed at the exhibition. Talented painters were invited to conduct demonstrations on realistic paintings for the benefit of students.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Sunday by Marathi actor and director Chandrakant Joshi in the presence of Ravi Paranjape, artist from Pune and disciple of Kulkarni.

Nearly 100 paintings were on display. Painters Vikas Patnekar and Kiran Hanamseth of Belgaum, Nimbalkar S., Sanjay Shelar and Satyajeet Varekar from Kolhapur participated in the three-day event.

A book on John Fernandes was released at the valedictory function on Tuesday.
